My handsome Luso stallion, ZICO, came from Brazil in May 2007. I bought him down there as a weanling. His conformation is solid and correct, with wonderful, strong legs and feet. He is of excellent Iberian type, with pedigree to match. His sire is the well known sire “Nobel do Retiro”, who was twice Brazilian National Champion Equitation horse. His dam is pure Andrade blood.
ZICO has the BEST temperament and character. He is fun, comfortable to ride, with great willingness and heart. He is WAY fun on the trails!

I am very torn in offering him for sale. He is everything I wanted for my Kiger breeding program – EXCEPT his color has changed since I first bought him. The Kigers are an all dun factored herd. They have no roaning, no grey, no chestnuts. I want to keep my Kigers true to type. As their DNA clusters just below the Lusitano, I had wanted to consolidate this blood by putting Lusitano back into the program. But, I don’t want to change the standards of my Kigers. Zico has matured into a handsome Sooty Buckskin with dun factor and the metallic gene. The sooty buckskin carries roaning all throughout his hair coat. It is not a color that I want to bring into my small breeding program. At the moment, he is a brilliant, almost copper gold. So, I think it is best to let ZICO go to someone who will utilize him; ride him, compete him, and perhaps offer him at stud to the Lusitano mares here in the U.S. I have already had quite a few requests for breeding, but that is not the business that I am in. I shipped cooled semen 20 years ago, and don’t want to go back there!
ZICO is currently priced at $22,000 and will go up according to his training.
He is a top quality individual, and a rare find. His foundation and temperament are absolutely the best. If you are looking for a willing partner, come and meet ZICO!
ZICO is licensed for breeding with the PSL in Brazil.
